Upgrading to Magento 2

Although Magento 2 was announced in 2010 the release took another 5 years. Since then, Magento 1 and Magento 2 have existed simultaneously in their various forms as Open Source and PaaS. It definitely was not the many new and improved features of Magento 2 that made our client nor their Solutions and Technology Partners exciting to upgrade, because there was lots of customization and custom code involved, even before we came in. Made it a little harder at that time for us to integrate, but totally was worth it as we now found out.

On top of that Magento 2 architecture is quite different from all the previous versions and therefore upgrading a running horse seemed more like a dreadful option than a fun-filled afternoon at the park.

Thanks to our clients Magento Solutions Partner, the way Coshape Manufacturing Cloud is designed to run independently, and the fairly straight forward integration with Magento, the entire upgrading process took little less than a week and two weekends from our side.
